For anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, the azure waters off the picturesque shores of Puerto Vallarta have long been a renowned destination, offering the opportunity to hook into some of the Pacific Ocean’s most sought-after game fish. And the latest fishing report from this premier Mexican Riviera locale is sure to have seasoned anglers eager to book their next trip.
According to local charter captains and tackle shop owners, the fishing action in the Puerto Vallarta region has been nothing short of spectacular in recent weeks, with a diverse array of pelagic predators eagerly taking a variety of natural and artificial baits.
“This has been one of the best starts to our spring and summer fishing season that I can remember,” enthuses Capt. Miguel RodrÃguez of Magnum Charters. “The billfish bite has been absolutely phenomenal, with our clients hooking into multiple striped marlin, sailfish, and even the occasional blue marlin on each trip.”
RodrÃguez notes that the marlin have been ranging in size from 150 to over 300 pounds, putting up intense, acrobatic battles that have left anglers exhilarated and with sore arms. “It’s not uncommon for us to release 5 or 6 striped marlin on a single day,” he adds. “The fishing has just been lights out.”
In addition to the world-class billfish action, the report also highlights the impressive numbers of other prized game fish being landed, including tuna, dorado (also known as mahi-mahi or dolphinfish), and roosterfish.
“The tuna bite has been outstanding, with lots of yellowfin and skipjack in the 20- to 40-pound class showing up close to shore,” notes Marco Santana, owner of Anglers Pro Shop. “And the dorado fishing has been absolutely phenomenal, with huge schools of these vibrant, acrobatic fish crashing baitballs just off the beaches.”
Santana is also quick to emphasize the robust roosterfish bite that has been captivating anglers from around the globe. These iconic, mohawk-crowned gamefish are renowned for their explosive strikes and tenacious, line-peeling runs – attributes that have made them a highly prized target for surf casters and inshore enthusiasts.
“The roosterfish action has been off the charts,” Santana enthuses. “Anglers are hooking into these incredible fish right from the beaches and jetties, with some real bruisers in the 30- to 40-pound class being landed on a regular basis.”
With this latest report painting a picture of world-class fishing action across multiple species, it’s no surprise that Puerto Vallarta is enjoying a surge in visitor interest from anglers eager to experience the thrill of battling these magnificent Pacific Ocean predators. For those with a passion for saltwater fishing, a trip to this Mexican fishing mecca may just be in order.
